Integration is about far more than learning a new language, finding work or understanding how public authorities operate.
When a person or a family begins a new life in a new society, relationships, family roles, parenting, finances, identity and expectations may all change. Children and young people often adapt faster than their parents. The roles of women and men may shift. Views on independence, equality, relationships and children's rights may differ from what people were used to before.
This can open new opportunities – but it can also create uncertainty, conflict and distance within the family.
Oxiana Education & Integration works precisely at the meeting point between the family, culture and Swedish society.
The aim is not for people to leave their culture or identity behind. The aim is to build understanding of the society they live in and to provide tools that help individuals and families develop, take part in society and at the same time build safe and lasting relationships.

A culturally and linguistically aware programme on relationships, parenting, rights and integration
Strong Families in a New Society is Oxiana's core education and integration programme.
It is designed for people and families with a migration background who need knowledge and practical tools to better understand and navigate family life, relationships, parenting and everyday life in Swedish society.
Integration does not have to mean choosing between your background and your new society. It is also about finding workable ways to combine your experience, identity and important values with the rights, responsibilities and opportunities that exist in Sweden.

Goal: greater confidence and understanding when navigating Swedish society.
How do we work?
Oxiana does not want participants to sit and listen passively. The programmes are built on knowledge, dialogue, concrete situations, practical exercises and reflection.
The structure can be adapted to the group. Where needed, certain elements can be delivered in separate women's and men's groups to create more safety and space for open conversation.
Language support and cultural adaptation can be offered depending on the participants' needs.

Why Oxiana?
Oxiana's education and integration work is built on a combination of academic knowledge, long practical experience and an understanding of how migration and social change can affect both the individual and the family.
Mujib Wais Ezat holds academic education in political science, with studies covering migration, international relations, economics and social issues. He also has many years of practical experience in family counselling, relationship and parenting support, social work, integration, intercultural communication and work with young people and families.
He also has experience of Swedish public administration through work at the Swedish Migration Agency, the Swedish Tax Agency, the Swedish Social Insurance Agency and the Government Service Centre, among others.
In addition, there are many years of experience in integration work, civil society and leadership, together with language and cultural competence.
This combination allows Oxiana to understand integration from several perspectives – that of the individual, the family and society.

Integration without losing your identity
Integration does not have to mean that people abandon their identity, their language or everything they carry with them from their earlier life.
At the same time, anyone living in Sweden needs to understand the laws, rights, responsibilities and fundamental principles of the society – and families may need to develop new ways of communicating, cooperating and parenting when their surroundings change.
Oxiana's starting point is therefore neither to romanticise every tradition nor to dismiss people's cultural background. The starting point is knowledge, dialogue, respect and change where change is needed.
The goal is for adults to feel greater security and participation, while children and young people are given the chance to feel that they belong both in their family and in the society where they grow up.

These services are offered as education, lectures, workshops and consultancy. Oxiana does not carry out authority decisions, social-service investigations, clinical treatment, psychotherapy, medical care or professional protection and risk assessments.
